EMDR HAP was established in the United States in 1995, and is a non-profit organization 501(c)(3) funded by private donations. All volunteers are trained in the EMDR methodology and are licensed in the mental health field.
EMDR HAP is an international volunteer network of mental health professionals who have been trained in the EMDR methodology and provide this same training to clinicians that could not otherwise access it.
EMDR HAP joins hands with agencies working to relieve human suffering that results from man made or natural disasters worldwide.
Teams of HAP volunteers connect with local community agencies to offer free and reduced fee training to local mental health professionals in war-torn regions, disaster sites, and Third-World countries.
Newly trained therapists receive follow-up training and support from HAP volunteers. Efforts within the United States include providing free or reduced fee training to therapists working in inner cities, treating survivors and witnesses of urban violence, and exploring how EMDR can break the cycle of violence by working within the prison system.
Although EMDR HAP therapists volunteer their time and skill, donations provide funds to get them wherever help is needed. Donations pay for airfare and modest accommodations and build a disaster relief fund so that we can be ready to go when disasters strike.
