TRN CONFERENCE

Session 106

Demystifying the EMDR Future Template: The Often Forgotten 3rd Prong

Summary:

There are few aspects of the standard protocol that are as misunderstood and underutilized as the Future Template. EMDR clinicians are familiar with the Third Prong as dealing with the future, however many struggle with understanding the various components of the 3rd prong. This workshop will clarify its components and explore and differentiate the various ways we can help clients enhance and generalize their ability to use adaptive information for future situations, even when they aren’t fully ready for phase 4 reprocessing. There will be a review of RDI and the Future Template including how it fits with case conceptualization and the type of BLS to be used.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to explain how to use the Future Template.
  2. Participants will recognize how to use the 3rd prong for future anxiety provoking or highly avoided situations.
  3. Participants will recognize how to use the 3rd prong as a Phase 2 intervention.
