"The aftershocks of the World Trade Center will resonate in the minds and hearts of its survivors for months or even years; and this, say EMDR researchers, is why EMDR will play a key role in their recovery -- now and later."
The treatment made me look deep--very deep--into my own existence. Now I see life and what it means to me. I'm more attentive to my feelings. I treasure each and every moment of my life.
- Richard Webster, mining fire victim in Family Therapy Networker
A hundred survivors of Hurricane Andrew in 1992, treated once with EMDR by volunteer therapists in crisis clinics and shelters, reported dramatic decreases in anxiety. A man in Bellingham, Washington, shot by a robber and left for dead, got relief after five years of recurrent nightmares.
- American Health
Starting the third week in May of 1995, two new EMDR therapists a week flew in from across the country at their own expense to offer free EMDR therapy, 20 from Colorado, and 40 in all by the time the clinic closed in October. In more than 700 sessions, they worked with direct victims of the bombing as well as firefighters, ambulance drivers, National Guardsmen, ATF agents and clergy.
