From Crisis Response to Community Outreach: How the Boston Area TRN® is Making a Difference

In recent months, the Boston Area TRN supported members of their community grappling with a tragedy at a summer camp, where a child died and others were injured when a large tree fell.  TRN members were able to meet with multiple children and their families, as well as camp administrators, local teachers and other adults, many who witnessed the disaster. They’ve been providing trauma support services and consultation to those impacted.

In an effort to strengthen ties with local law enforcement and first responders, several BATRN members staffed an informational table at the NEMLEC CISM Wellness Event in October (Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, Critical Incident Stress Management).

Three members of the Boston Area TRN stand behind a table with signs and information about their services at a local networking event.

“We had a really successful tabling event in which we engaged with first responders from around New England about first responder mental health and wellness,” shared BATRN coordinator Marlene Kenney.

Members were able to talk with many people who have had positive experiences with EMDR therapy and share information about the purpose and work of the Trauma Recovery Network®. The BATRN shares that their motto is the time to prepare is before something happens. They strongly believe that connecting and building community relationships ultimately helps build safety.

Lastly, we extend our gratitude to the BATRN for their participation during the EMDR Walk in the Park this past June. It was their first year participating together as a walk team and they logged 175 miles and raised over $1,000! Members would like to give a special shout out to friends and family of the BATRN who continue to support their work with generous donations to support Trauma Recovery/HAP. They look forward to participating in the walk again next year.
