Learn From the Experts

Our faculty is comprised of top-tier trainers and facilitators who undergo a rigorous training process. These passionate, experienced volunteers are dedicated to advancing EMDR therapy in communities and with populations in need.  

Trainers lead the training process and the volunteer team at Trauma Recovery/HAP’s EMDR Therapy Basic Training Parts 1 and 2. Trainers are EMDRIA Approved Consultants with previous experience as facilitators in basic EMDR training.

Facilitators are part of the training teams for Trauma Recovery/HAP’s EMDR Therapy Basic Training Parts 1 and 2. Facilitators provide supervision and support for the practicum that are key components of each EMDR training workshop.

  • Lori Pereira

    Lori Pereira

    MA, LPC

    Lori Pereira is the Executive Director of Trauma Recovery, EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs. Prior to assuming the role of Executive Director, she served as a Trauma Recovery/HAP volunteer and clinical consultant for nearly two decades. She has held various volunteer roles, including EMDR Facilitator and Trainer, clinical lead of the Facilitator-in-Training (FiT) program, and clinical consultant for the Trauma Recovery Network® program. 

    Lori has extensive experience working in private practice and community mental health centers, and in nonprofit and for-profit settings. Most recently, she was owner and consultant of Lori Pereira Counseling & Consulting in Denver, CO where she provided EMDR therapy, consultation, facilitation and training services. She devoted ten years of her career to various roles at the Community Reach Center in Colorado, beginning as a school-based therapist, then becoming Program Manager for the center’s school-based services and care teams, and advanced to become the Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance and Corporate Compliance Officer.

    Lori is certified in EMDR therapy, an EMDR approved consultant, and an EMDR trainer and facilitator. She has a B.A. in Psychology and a Master’s in Counseling and Psychological Services.

  • April Minjarez

    April Minjarez

    PhD

    Dr. April Minjarez began her journey with Trauma Recovery/HAP in 2010. She became a volunteer Facilitator in 2016 and advanced to a volunteer Trainer role in 2018. Her dedication was recognized with the Trainer of the Year award in 2021. Dr. Minjarez further expanded her role as a clinical consultant for Trauma Recovery/HAP in 2021, and in 2024, she took on the role of Trainer of Trainers. 

    With a PhD in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Minjarez is a licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist, bringing over 25 years of experience to the field. Since beginning her career in 1998 at a residential facility for children, she has dedicated most of her career to community-based mental health, specializing in work with children, families, active-duty service members, veterans, first responders, end-of-life issues, grief and loss, ketamine-assisted therapy, and more.  

    Passionate about training and inspiring clinicians, Dr. Minjarez applies organizational and adult learning principles to create impactful learning experiences that foster growth and resilience in the communities served. 

  • Rosalie Thomas

    Rosalie Thomas

    PhD

    Dr. Rosalie Thomas is a Senior Clinical Consultant and the coordinator of national and international projects.  In this role, she acts as an advisor to the clinical team and focuses on domestic and international projects that will help to promote EMDR therapy and build local capacity in developing regions throughout the world.  Her major goals are to ensure that Trauma Recovery/HAP basic trainings are of the highest quality that meet or exceed global standards, and to facilitate data collection to demonstrate the effectiveness of Trauma Recovery/HAP projects.  

    Rosalie has been actively involved with the EMDR community since 1992, serving as President of the EMDR International Association, Board Member of the EMDR Research Foundation, and co-facilitator of the EMDR Global Alliance.  As a trainer, she has participated in training programs throughout the United States and, through the EMDR Institute of Dr. Shapiro, has been the trainer of trainers for EMDR Asia and Trauma Recovery/HAP.  She likes to unite sister organizations to collaborate in our shared mission of bringing health and healing to those in need.  

    Rosalie holds a degree in nursing, a Master’s in Education, and a Ph.D. in psychology.  She enjoys sailing, SCUBA diving, travel, and spending time with family and friends.  

  • Kyndel Marcroft

    Kyndel Marcroft

    HAP Trainer Kyndel Marcroft is a Utah Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of clinical experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults. She has been a volunteer for Trauma Recovery/HAP since 2015 and a HAP Trainer since 2021.

  • John Paradiso

    John Paradiso

    LCSW

    John Paradiso is a behavioral health professional with over 30 years of experience serving individuals of all ages in diverse treatment settings. Since 2008, he has led outpatient behavioral health and mobile crisis services for youth and families in Virginia Beach. He is passionate about supporting justice-involved youth and developed the city’s Mobile Crisis Intervention Services for Youth, now a statewide model. Mr. Paradiso is certified in multiple evidence-based therapies and is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Trainer Candidate.

  • Stacy Eggsware

    Stacy Eggsware

    LPC, LCMHC

    Stacy Eggsware is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Arizona and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in Vermont. She began as a family therapist working with youth and families in low economic areas of great need. She counseled families involved with the juvenile justice system; helping them navigate and succeed under court ordered family therapies and child protective service investigations using an evidenced based practice of Functional Family Therapy.

    Today we find Stacy pursuing training in Equilateral EMDR (with horses); providing EMDR basic training virtually and in person; building a DBT training for clinicians; and writing curriculum for a children’s grief group.

    Bernadette Talia, LCSW, is an EMDR-certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Domestic Violence Counselor trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. With over 11 years of experience, she has worked at CMSS and led various support groups in Arabic.

  • Ted Olejnik

    Ted Olejnik

    LICSW

    Ted Olejnik, MSW, LICSW, has 35 years mental health experience and twelve years treating patients with EMDR therapy. Currently, he is an EMDR consultant and EMDR Level I trainer. With EMDR therapy he has treated military, first responders, and recent trauma victims. Ted speaks German and Polish fluently.

      Lisa Battle-Gwathney

      Ph.D., HSP, PCC

      Lisa Battle-Gwathney, Ph.D., HSP, PCC, EMDRIA Approved Consultant & Trainer is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Nashville, TN. She works with adults ages 18-65 who are navigating anxiety, trauma, family stress, and PTSD. With a doctorate in Counseling Psychology, she utilizes a blend of Trauma-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Family Systems Therapy, culturally sensitive approaches, coaching, and EMDR.

      Trainer Kelly R. Stevenson, MA, has over 10 years of clinical experience, including 5 years in outpatient mental health and a focus on college students and faculty, she is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, iRest® Level II Teacher-in-Training, and a Registered Yoga Teacher.

    • Reginald Henry McRae

      Reginald Henry McRae

      Trainer Reginald Henry McRae, PsyD, MA, BA, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, is a veteran with over 20 years of military service. He has provided outpatient mental health services in Northern Virginia since 2007, treating a wide range of disorders in adolescents and adults. Dr. McRae creates a safe and supportive therapy environment using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Solution Focused Therapy, and EMDR. He is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Certified EMDR Therapist. In addition to therapy, he conducts psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults, coordinating with schools and healthcare providers. He specializes in trauma-related anxiety and depression and works extensively with service members, veterans, and their families. Dr. McRae is the founder of Evolution Psychological Services, a trauma-focused, patient-centered practice.

        Tara May

        PHD

        Tara May, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist, EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and HAP Facilitator, who holds certifications in trauma and in perinatal mental health. She is Clinical Director of Blue Leaf Mental Wellness Center; a trauma focused private group psychotherapy practice and provides consultation and workshops on EMDR related topics.

      • Hope Payson

        Hope Payson

        LCSW, LADC

        Hope Payson LCSW, LADC has over 30 years of experience as a clinician in a variety of settings. Hope currently assists private and non-profit organizations throughout the US and internationally in creating trauma informed systems of care. Among her areas of expertise are working with clients with histories of intergenerational trauma, incarceration, and financial hardship.

        Hope presents at conferences on topics ranging from EMDR, complex trauma, addiction, and ways to promote both individual and systemic recovery. She is the co-producer of the film “Uprooting Addiction” Healing From the Ground Up”, and authored a chapter of the book “EMDR and Group Therapy: Emerging Principals and Protocols to Treat Trauma and Beyond”.

        • Bethany Warren

          Bethany Warren

          Bethany (Beth) Warren is a perinatal psychotherapist in private practice in San Diego, California and has worked in reproductive mental health for 25 years. She is author of the books: The Pregnancy and Postpartum Mood Workbook and most recently, Healing From Reproductive Trauma.

          Beth is certified in EMDR therapy and Perinatal Mental Health, specializing in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, birth and reproductive trauma, pregnancy loss, and infertility. She is passionate about spreading awareness about mental health treatment and prevention and is regularly featured on podcasts and gives trainings on perinatal mental health and trauma.

          She is also an EMDRIA approved consultant, facilitates EMDR therapy trainings with HAP and runs a regular Perinatal EMDR consultation group. Beth is a current member and previously served as the President of the Board of the Postpartum Health Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting awareness of Perinatal Mental Health and accessibility of quality mental healthcare for all parents.

          Christine Mark-Griffin is a licensed clinical social worker, EMDRIA-approved consultant, and advanced trainer. As an EMDR consultant & trauma-conscious yoga therapist, Christine is passionate about playfully combining her love of music, movement, fitness &yoga with clinical practice to help children learn, grow, and heal. She is the owner of Spark All Wellness, a small group practice located in San Francisco, California, specializing in EMDR and trauma therapy with women and children. Additionally, she is the author of “EMDR Workbook for Kids” & founder of EMDR for Kids. The mission at EMDR for Kids is to empower therapists, parents, and children of all ages with resources, tools, and training to overcome trauma & adversities.

        • Elizabeth Downey

          Liz Downey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in the Denver, Colorado area. Liz currently works in private practice specializing in working with clients with complex trauma, co-occurring disorders, and dissociation. Prior to private practice, Liz spent the first fifteen years of her career working in clinical and supervisory roles in nonprofit organizations specializing in human trafficking, intimate partner violence, justice-involved clients, clients with severe persistent mental illness, and those with addictions. Liz is a facilitator for HAP basic training and is a member of the Denver TRN.

        • Janelle Nimer

          Janelle Nimer

          LCSW, PhD

          Janelle Nimer, LCSW, PhD has 20 years of experience with animal-assisted interventions (AAI) in practice and academia. She is Certified and a Consultant in EMDR. She champions the benefits of integrating animals into trauma therapy with children, adolescents, women, veterans, veterans with moral injury, and veterans with military sexual trauma. Dr. Nimer completed a master’s in social work from the University of Utah, a doctorate, and a fellowship in Veterinary Social Work from the University of Tennessee. She has published and instructed on AAI at national and international levels. She held adjunct teaching roles at both Colleges of Social Work.

        • Sarah Osborne

          Sarah Osborne, LPC, LADC, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Nationally Certified Counselor. She is a HAP Approved Facilitator, and EMDRIA Approved Consultant & Advanced Credit Provider who specializes in the treatment of addiction, complex trauma and dissociation. She has experience working in community mental health settings and private addiction treatment centers. Sarah is actively involved with integrating EMDR therapy into several addiction facilities across the levels of care. She is dedicated to promoting space for healing and wellness across diverse populations in her private EMDR practice, the work she does with first responders, and as a co-owner of a perinatal group practice. She provides ongoing individual and group consultation to all levels of EMDR professionals and consultants-in-training.
