Welcoming Our Newest Student Scholarship Recipients

We are excited to share that we have selected a new group of scholarship recipients for the first round of the Student Scholarship Fund this year! The purpose of the Student Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships to master’s level (or higher) students that are pursuing work in Community Mental Health.

Scholarship recipients are provided vouchers to cover the cost of EMDR Basic Training with Trauma Recovery/HAP. In 2025, we expanded the fund to also cover the required training consultation costs. The scholarship application process runs twice per year and will open again later this year in June.

This new group of students has demonstrated a strong interest in becoming EMDR trained clinicians in order to meet the mental health needs of the communities where they live and work. When applying to the Scholarship Fund, applicants were asked to answer several questions, including “Why do you want to work in the sphere of community mental health?” and “How is learning EMDR important to achieving your clinical goals?”

Here are some of their inspiring words:

Working in community mental health feels like a natural and necessary path for me. I believe healing must be accessible, culturally sensitive, and rooted in the realities of the populations we serve, shared Alexis Godoy, a graduate student at Azusa Pacific University.

I do not believe that anyone is ‘broken’ beyond repair and believe that healing can be possible with the right support and approach. This is not a job but rather a calling for me. I want to learn EMDR to align with trauma informed care when talk therapy is not enough,” shared Teresa Dilworth, a graduate student in a Master of Social Work program.

Community mental health aligns with my belief that effective care should be accessible, relational, and responsive to the lived realities of the populations served,” shared Charles Ross, a graduate student and U.S. Army veteran.

Alexis, Teresa, Charles, and the rest of the scholarship recipients are helping to advance the mission of Trauma Recovery/HAP: to increase the capacity for effective treatment of psychological trauma in under-served communities anywhere in the world.

We look forward to supporting these students as they embark on their journey to make a lasting difference in community mental health. If you’re inspired by their words, consider supporting our program with a donation to help a future round of recipients achieve their career goals.

Congratulations and welcome to our new group of scholarship recipients!
